On December 29, the Catholic Church celebrates the memory of the Holy Family - Jesus, Mary and Joseph - a wonderful time to pray for the strengthening of existing families and for the creation of new strong families based on the rock - Christ.
"Today is the feast of the Holy Family of Nazareth. God chose a humble and simple family to be among us. Let us contemplate the beauty of this mystery, emphasizing also two specific aspects concerning our families.
The first is that the family is the story of our origins. None of us was magically born: each of us has our own story, and the family is the very story from which we originate. The Gospel of today's liturgy reminds us that Jesus is also a child of a particular family history.
The second aspect is that we need to learn every day how to be a family.
In the Gospel we see that even in the Holy Family not everything was going smoothly: there were unexpected problems, anxieties, suffering.
Mary and Joseph lose Jesus, anxiously search for him, and find him only three days later. And when, sitting among the teachers in the Temple, Jesus replies that he must attend to what belongs to the Father, his parents do not understand him. They need time to recognize their son.
So it is with us: every day the family needs to learn to listen and understand each other, to walk together, to face conflicts and difficulties. This is a daily challenge, and it is overcome by the right relationships, small signs of attention.
