August 6 Transfiguration of the Lord
\n\"Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and brought them up on a high mountain especially them alone, and was transfigured before them\" (from Mark 9:2-10).
\nWhat Peter, James and John saw on the mountain was not only a miracle for these three disciples. Jesus knows very well that their faith will soon be severely tested by the events of His Passion and death, so it is necessary for them to see, if only for a few moments, His glory not only with the eyes of faith, but also with the eyes of the flesh. If we, too, could see the light that comes from the face of Jesus every time we shut ourselves away from suffering and pain, we would have a completely different attitude toward the negative events of life. Not only does the Lord abide with us, but in moments of trial He is the one who strengthens us, so that difficulties may harden us and make us, His disciples, more resolute.
