Today, August 15, the Church celebrates one of the most important feasts dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary: the Solemnity of Her Assumption. At the end of Her earthly life, the Mother of Christ ascended in body and soul to Heaven, that is, into the glory of eternal life, into full union with God.<\/p>\n
Mary is the Believer, the great Believer.<\/p>\n
Today's Gospel shows us the true reason for Mary's greatness and her beatitude: it is faith. Elizabeth greets her with these words: \"Blessed is she who has believed, because what the Lord has spoken to her will be fulfilled\" (Lk 1:45). Faith is at the heart of Mary's whole story; She is the Believer, the great Believer. She knows - and says so - that the violence of tyrants, the pride of the rich, the hubris of the arrogant prevail in life. Nevertheless, Mary believes and proclaims that God does not leave alone His children, the humble and the poor, but helps them mercifully, caringly, throwing the powerful off their thrones, scattering the haughty with the thoughts of their hearts. This is the faith of our Mother, this is the faith of Mary!<\/p>\n
The Strong One has made me great<\/p>\n
The Song of the Theotokos also allows us to understand the ultimate meaning of Mary's story: if the Lord's mercy is the engine of history, then the Virgin from whom the Lord of Life was incarnate could not \"know corruption in the tomb\". All this does not apply only to Mary. \"The \"great thing\" accomplished in her by the Almighty touches us deeply, speaks to our life journey, reminds us of the goal awaiting us: the Father's house. Our life, which we see through the light of Mary, taken to Heaven, is not a meaningless journey to nowhere, but a pilgrimage which, with all its imperfections and sufferings, has a precise goal: the home of our Heavenly Father, who awaits us with love. How beautiful it is to know this: that we have a Father who waits for us with love, and that our Mother Mary is also there in Heaven, waiting for us with love.<\/p>\n
O merciful, O merciful, O meek Virgin Mary!<\/p>\n
Today, let us pray together that throughout our journey on this earth, she will turn her merciful eye to us, light the way, show us the goal and, after this exile, show us Jesus, the blessed fruit of her womb. Let us repeat together: O merciful, merciful, meek Virgin Mary!<\/p>\n
