Today is Divine Mercy Sunday, a brand new feast that Pope John Paul II established. It is celebrated on the Sunday after Easter. Beginning locally, the veneration of Divine Mercy spread quickly around the world - as if the world really needed it.
Jesus Christ Himself wished to establish this feast when He appeared to St. Faustina Kowalska. Christ determined not only the day of the feast, but also its meaning:
"I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a salvation and refuge for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On this day the depths of My mercy are opened, I pour out a whole sea of graces upon the soul who approaches the fountain of My mercy; that soul who on this day proceeds to confession and Holy Communion will receive full absolution and deliverance from punishment; on this day all the channels through which graces are poured out are open.""
Today on Divine Mercy Sunday, six of our parishioners received their First Communion: Tatiana, Alexei, Inessa, Vadim, Emma, and Marik. They were preparing to receive the sacrament under the guidance of Fr. Ditmar.
We pray that the desire to be with Christ will not disappear in the course of their lives, and that their attitude to the Body and Blood of Christ will be as reverent and conscious.
