Holy Thursday. Remembrance of the Last Supper. "I have given you an example, that you also may do what I have done to you" (from John 13: 1-15).
The Son of God spent His whole earthly life loving and serving. So in these last days, He takes a towel and washes the feet of His disciples. Then, He leaves us the Sacrament of the Altar so that we can always feed on His love.
The gesture of foot washing is inseparable from the Eucharist: the one who participates in it allows the Son of God to wash his feet, and is also called to serve others following the example of Jesus.
One cannot participate in the Eucharist without taking on this task of loving and serving one's neighbor as Jesus has done for us.
